We recommend you use the online tools to update or create your contact record. They can be found on our website at http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/handle. In these General Instructions, we provide an explanation of what information belongs in each of the fields, as well as a brief overview of how to fill out this form. If you choose to complete this format of the Host Form, as opposed to using the online tools to complete the form, please note that when you send this to Network Solutions: 1. you should send only the Host Form, from "[ URL ftp://www.networksolutions.com/templates/host-template.txt ]" to "2l. E-Mailbox.............................:" Do not send any of the information below the line that reads "...--- cut here ---..." 2. you should not alter or otherwise modify the Host Form other than to enter your information 2. you should send it by e-mail only to hostmaster@networksolutions.com. Hard copies of this form sent via postal mail will not be processed. The Host Form has four uses. It can be used to: 1. create a new host record, 2. update a host record, or 3. delete a host record from Network Solutions' database, or to 4. assign a new contact to a host record. A host record can be created or updated by the administrative or technical contact of the domain name in which the host resides. For example, the host NS.EXAMPLE.COM is said to reside in the domain name EXAMPLE.COM. Therefore, only the administrative or technical contact for EXAMPLE.COM has the authority to create a host record for NS.EXAMPLE.COM, to update the host record for NS.EXAMPLE.COM or to delete the host record for NS.EXAMPLE.COM. REGISTERING A NEW HOST RECORD It's easiest to create a new host record when you are registering the domain name that the host resides in. However, because there are occassions when you'd want to create a new host for an existing domain name, we make this option available to you. You need to know these things if you are using the text-based version of the Host Form to create a new host record: A. you should save a copy of the Host Form onto your computer. Using your browser's tool bar, choose File, then Save As. Note the location and name of the file. When you are ready complete the Host Form, open the file using a text- based document editor, such as NotePad or WordPad, complete the form, and save it using a different file name. B. you should only enter information to the right of the colon on any line. C. you should use only ASCII characters. D. when you e-mail the form to hostmaster@networksolutions.com, you should enter NEW HOST in the subject line of your message. There are a couple of things you should decide on or recall before you register your host: 1. your contact handle. This was assigned to you when your contact record was first registered. If you don't have a contact handle, we strongly suggest that you register yourself as a contact before you proceed. 2. what Guardian method you chose. This method will protect your host record, in addition to your contact and domain name records. 3. what e-mail address you want us to use when we communicate procedural changes and other important information with you. If you decide to use the Mail-From Guardian method, you'll use this address to send us your updates and modification requests.
